can we take a fucking moment
and then it follows: “once jungkook gave up on yoongi. back then, yoongi threw himself into the flames. but cruelly, yoongi didn’t die. jungkook never forgave himself for failing to stop him.” and “i wasn’t sure how jungkook could save yoongi. that decise moment in life++
that last moment, for each of us, including jungkook and yoongi, can’t be interfered with. it can only be shared by those who suffer the same wound, understand each other’s fears, dreams, and defeats and therefore see through each to the core.”
THEY’RE EACH OTHER’S ONLY VARIABLES. thank you for coming to the same ted talk i’ve been performing for the past 5 years.
actually there’s more, the fact that there’s a wounded bird in yoongi’s workroom and that yoongi somewhat tends to and that it somewhat keeps him alive and seokjin immediately thinks it reminds him of jungkook, MATE. literally 10 pages before jungkook is+++
getting himself beat up and then going up the building, spreading his arms and and wanting to fall but then but then BUT THEN MY GOOD PEOPLE yoongi calls him and “all my senses instantly returned” and “i came back to myself”
“it wasn’t difficult to send jungkook to yoongi. (....) since that day, he visited yoongi’s workroom every day. at first, yoongi flatly told him to go away, but he didn’t really mean it.”
ALSO LET US ALL RECALL THAT in the section of The Thing With Wings where this all happens, there’s a footnope that says “hope is the thing with feathers by emily dickinson” and lads my lads don’t make me say it again but yoongi and jungkook are e/o’s hopes
their story is intertwined in a way that they yearn for the same thing at the same time they can see that thing in each other and they recognise it and it scares them because all they’ve known is pain and reaching out was always met with a slap back or being left and unloved
they’re both self-destructive and they both want to give up but they can’t because there’s this small ounce of hope that they might somehow be loved back at some point lads LADS
and seokjin, who has been our narrator for the most part of it as he has seen it all happen in different ways and how them /not/ finding e/o ends in the loop to continue, he KNOWS THAT. he spells it out.
and people dare to say yoongi didn’t go inside jungkook’s hospital room because he was ashamed, he motherfucking sprinted there and he couldn’t go in because everything he tried to love burnt and hurt and like his mother used to tell him “it was all because of you”
and even when they can’t see each other, as times follows them separately, they’re constantly connected by the one song they used to play together on the piano. it’s their song, and it’s unfishined, and it keeps them living somehow.
and yoongi says it himself: it’s not a single melody. it’s a collection of memories. and he says that as he suddenly remembers a “bright sunny afternoon” and “that sounds really nice” jungkook came closer. i chuckled. “you always say that”
the song they both hear is filled with moments where they were the most happy, lads. with each other and with the others. [holds microphone] the motherfucking most beautiful moments in life.
and yoongi goes on to complete that song and call it hope. HOPE. lemme say that again. H O P E. as emily dickinson would say, the thing with feathers. the wounded bird in his workroom. jungkook.
