Hi, it’s Eve, and while I don’t personally identify as a he/him or they/them lesbian, I would like to cover the, best stated, egregious and hypocritical gatekeeping of which is toward the aforementioned groups. Let’s get into it.
To begin, my contentions for this thread are:
1) Pronouns don’t always equal gender (although for many, they do)
2) Gatekeeping toward he/him and they/them lesbians insinuates a prerequisite of gender conformity to be counted as a lesbian.
Let’s go.
1) According to Quora for the inquiry “do pronouns equal gender?” someone responded with this, “If someone uses she/her pronouns, she isn't *necessarily* a woman, but she probably identifies with femininity in some way.” To add on, from the LGBTA wiki, it states,
“A he/him lesbian refers to a lesbian who uses he/him pronouns but is still a woman or woman-aligned. The term can be used by any women who are wlw (sapphic) and use he/him pronouns.” This adds up. Pronouns and gender don’t always equate. However, comfort and pronouns should.
