The secret, under-the-counter contracts given to really weird companies to deliver PPE and other pandemic services.
It needs more exposure.

In writing this column, I was reminded of something, but couldn& #39;t quite place it.
It came to me this morning: military contracting during the reign of George I.
Extremely lucrative government monopolies, granted to intermediaries, who merely placed orders with manufacturers.

Some of the richest families in England made their fortunes this way. Now, under Boris Johnson, the practice seems to have been revived.
