A great exercise for a highly sensitive and conscientious person is to remember, “What do I do in this same situation?”

You’ll realize how weird and off-putting a toxic person’s behavior is when you frame it that way. Instead of rationalizing as, “Well maybe they were just...”
Example 1. When someone says a cruel joke, don’t think to yourself, “Well maybe it was just a joke.”

Instead, think of all the times you never made a cruel joke. It never occurred to you to do so, because you’re actually witty and have substance. 🤣 And empathy.
Example 2. When someone replies to something you say online in an unnecessary way — not caring if they offend you.

Think of all the times YOU quietly unfollowed people without saying a word or allowed people to simply BE. Because it was none of your business.
Example 3. When you share an accomplishment and someone is indifferent, cruel, or centers themselves or compares themselves to you out of jealousy.

Think of all the times you congratulated people even those you did not know well because you were happy for their success.
Example 5. When someone is threatened by you, then tries to tear you down.

Think of the times you’ve felt blown away by someone’s success and it inspired you to do even better. Remember the fact that you don’t stalk, harass or engage in envious put downs against innocent people.
Example 4. When someone shares a story of being violated or abused, and a victim shamer comes around to defend the perpetrator.

Think of all the times you stood up for the underdog and validated those who have been violated.
