people have really talked up this little robot boy to me, hyped this king up, let’s see if he delivers
#SpielbergWatch2020
upsetting monologue about climate change opening this movie!
bad vibe from this William Hurt character, like all Hurt characters
one of these students is Clark Gregg!
France McDormand
Sam Robards
man, Osment already so in the pocket
me at this set design
he’s so creepy! I love him!
“mommy, will you die”
“one day David yes I will”
“I’ll be alone”
UPSET WHERE THIS IS GOING
losing my mind at how this robot teddy bear moves
oh that’s sweet, their son survived his illness
*two minutes later*
FUCK THIS KID
no longer attracted to Robards in this, what a jerk, you bought the damn robot! have some compassion and discipline your dipshit son!
wrecked at this long drive into the woods
FLESH FAIRS is a hell of a phrase to drop in the middle of this emotionally destroying goodbye
I’m trying to recover from that trauma and Spielberg’s response is to cut to Jude Law at peak hot, I’m so confused
Jude Law the sex worker robot framed for a murder he didn’t commit is so much an entirely different movie, I almost thought we weren’t cutting back to Osment
mark it, this movie earned the fifth star with the cannibal robots
hahaha I feel like I gave it away too easy when right after Stevey introduces sky pirates who fly around in a Team Rocket balloon
and now there’s like neon wolf motorcycles???
I’m at the Flesh Fair
Brendan Gleeson in a big old cowboy hat

just logging everything that brings me joy from here on out
we gave Jude Law an Oscar for this right? just the way he plays music by doing a head jerk is Oscar worthy
seeing the strictly PG Spielberg grapple with Kubrick horniness should be a mismatch but instead it’s fascinating
this Dr. Know scene is fantastic
Manhattan, the end of the world
“they made us too smart, too quick, and too many”
honestly, I expected this movie to be two hours of quiet family drama with a robot kid and then the infamous ending happens. I’m so glad I get to be surprised by stuff like an action scene with a future helicopter in the neon ruins of New York City.
wait this is New York, which means Rogue Town was probably Jersey
John Williams teeing up his usual twinkly stuff and then there’s a horror reveal and he’s like “got you sucker, here’s music that evokes the dread of the void!”
JESUS CHRIST DAVID
even when being the symbol of ultimate patrician care and loving I just can’t trust William Hurt
David seeing the room full of other Davids haha this movie is horrifying
Spielberg has the rep of a big softie, a 90% correct rep, but no one else on earth could pull off “robot child tries to kill himself”, that realm is entirely within only his wheelhouse
“I am. I was!”
Jude Law!
TWO THOUSAND YEARS?!
and now we’re at the infamous alien ending, the only thing I really knew about the movie going in. my gut ruling in the moment is it’s thematically perfect
“Teddy we’re home”
HERE IT COMES
