Sec 201(a) of the US-HK Policy Act is suspended as HK is no longer “sufficiently autonomous”, US laws that applied pre-handover shall no longer apply. https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/presidents-executive-order-hong-kong-normalization/

2/n: This includes immigration laws that applied to HK. HK will no longer be treated as a foreign state separate from the PRC, HK will no longer be allotted separate visa limits. Preferences for HK passport as compared to PRC passports will also be eliminated.

3/n: Export licensing exceptions and suspensions for sensitive and defense technologies are also revoked. Exports and reexports to HK will be treated the same as those to the PRC and transfers within the PRC.

4/n: Notice is also given to HK to suspend agreements for the surrender of fugitive offenders and the transfer of sentenced persons between the US and HK. This is likely an outcome of the extraterritoriality of the #NSL.

Provision of training to the HKPF will also be terminated.

5/n: Academic exchange programmes and tax exemptions with respect to income from the international operation of ships are also terminated.

Refugee quotas will also be reallocated to Hong Kong based on humanitarian concerns.

6/n: The order doesn’t end with ending preferential treatments. It has also outlined sanctions to HK and CCP officials, they include persons responsible for

- developing, adopting or implementing the #NationalSecurityLaw
- undermining democratic processes and institutions in HK

- threatening the peace, security, stability or autonomy of HK
- threatening the HKers basic freedoms of or the free press
- human rights abuses in HK

It also targets government entities or other entities that have materially assisted the above behaviour.

8/n: US property and interests of property owned by these individuals and entities will be blocked.

Their entry to the US will also be restricted. This also applies to their immediate family members.
