I’m going to share some thoughts on Jeff Sessions now. I pretty rarely make comments about people’s faults on nights they lose elections.

I think it is imperative people know and never, ever forget the horrible things this man and his minions have done.
In no particular order:
1) Jeff Sessions is as responsible as anyone for the separation and torture of over 5,000 children at the US Mexico border.
2) Sessions is so proud of this, he put it in his closing ads in the race he just lost.
3) NO one grafted on the Trump campaign earlier than Sessions and more deeply. Sessions team wrote Trump immigration plan—with the eugenics lobby (yes, I’m not using hyperbole) he worked with his entire career. And go watch that Aug ‘15 rally. It was the moment that...
Trump arrived in a new and big way; but also it was when Sessions found a vessel—one willing to bs and break the fourth wall and give permission for people to ignore—his vile, anti-immigrant agenda to purge America of immigrants and stop future immigrants.
4) Sessions was somehow *SO* racist that the GOP run Senate Judiciary committee of the mid 1980s wouldn’t confirm him. He also normalized his open anti-immigrant racism as AG to he pushed into how people had trouble covering him and talking about him honestly...
What to call a man who openly wanted to return to the racial quota immigration laws of the 1920s? A man who on the floor of Congress said no one from an entire country—the Dominican Republic—has a “provable skill”—this is who became our Attorney General

When this chapter is past us, the most important story to tell of the last 5 years is about Trump and Sessions. Of course, the President is wrong that Sessions didn’t defend him (e.g. Rosenstein, Whittaker). Where Sessions wounded POTUS the most was actually this policies...
Sessions conspired with states like Texas AG Ken Paxton and Kobach to try to end DACA (go see his staff’s testimony under oath on this). This has been a political disaster for POTUS.

Family Separation has been a human rights nightmare. Same with the subsequent end to asylum...
But they’ve also been the lowest political points (until recently) of POTUS’s presidency.

Which brings me to a new point: Sessions actually won on policy, but in doing so he did more than anyone to make sure that Trump loses in November.
Sessions spent his entire career working alongside anti-immigrant groups like FAIR, NumbersUSA, VDARE and more. Most all of these groups were founded by John Tanton, a proud white supremacist who dedicated his life to preserving as large a “European white majority” as possible...
Tanton was also the author of “The Case for Passive Eugenics.” His groups came up with the strategy of using threats to deport Dreamers as leverage to slash legal immigration (they failed). Tanton died recently. His vision did not.

But his political champions have been losing.
Steve King lost, Bob Goodlatte retired, Lou Barletta lost, Kobach lost (and will lose again), Dave Brat lost...now of course, I am aware of the implications of November, but FAIR and NumbersUSA always swear their policies are popular but the scoreboard is VERY bad for them.
Jeff Sessions civil rights record across the board is as abysmal as one can get. I’m on an immigration rant here but his record on voting rights, criminal justice policy, issues of race and racism are as just as bad.
In the end, the President and Sessions may loathe each other, but they deserve each other and their star-crossed love for xenophobia betrays an intertwined fate. They’re two sides of the same coin.
Sessions, who someone called the last of the unreconstructed segregationalists left in the Senate, was willing to be seen as the bad guy to preserve this order; President Trump wants to be the good guy and just get you to like him bc you share the same enemies.
POTUS breaks the 4th wall & winks to create a permission structure for voters that he’s kidding; Sessions makes sure that certain people know hes deadly serious

Sec Nielsen signed a memo in private to start family separation

Sessions went to San Diego to announce it in a speech
This is not to minimize the man’s impact.

I want to be very clear: Jeff Sessions has had a huge, terrible, and tramautimizing impact on humanity for which he and his closest allies should spent the rest of their days making amends (sadly, I doubt they will).
But it closing it is to say that in the end, Sessions horrible policies earned him NOTHING with this President, have hurt the President politically, and should be a warning to all who offer themselves up to this President OR such vile anti-immigrant politics.

Ok thats it.
and I’m sorry I left out dozens of things here. This was pretty self-indulgent (even for me) to go this long and had to wrap up but yes, it tragically could go on and on.
