It’s looking like an upset brewing in the D primary runoff for TX-24 with Candace Valenzuela leading Kim Olson 55.9% to 44.1%. #txlege
TX-24 is the competitive Texas congressional district that has seen the greatest decrease in its white citizen voting age population since it was drawn in 2012 (-10.5%). #txlege
TX-24 started the last decade with a white citizen voting age population of 68% but now it’s down to 57%.

Meanwhile, the district’s Latino cvap has increased from 13.1% to 16.9%, its Black cvap from 10.6% to 14% and its Asian cvap from 6.7% to 9.7%. #txlege
In short, like a lot of suburban districts, it’s becoming diverse in a complex coalitional sort of way. Among Texas districts, TX-24 also has one of the highest levels of college-educated white voters. #txlege 3/
An interesting side story about TX-24: One of the reasons it is competitive in the general election is Republicans’ refusal to create a Latino majority district in the DFW region last decade. https://twitter.com/mcpli/status/1281626849601298432?s=21 #txlege 4/ https://twitter.com/mcpli/status/1281626849601298432
The final margin of victory was even wider.
