Latinxs of color pose that nationality, status, country of origin, citizenship status, race, class are all factors that we must take into account and note when talking about Latinidad, race, power and dynamics among people.

White Lat Ams rather it just be “Gringo Vs Lat Ams” https://twitter.com/mcnuiti/status/1282677432286420993
It’s convenient, bc then they can shout down any Black and Indigenous people who live in the so-called US and dismiss our convos that reveal their power and position as being from a ”Gringo perspective”. They can ignore the nuance and critiques of whitness that indicts them.
White and mestizx Lat Ams love to flatten reality to attack “Gringo” Latinxs who are of color on this app. I less often see Lat Ams of color do this. It really is just whites who feel attacked bc we are discussing legacies of their exploitation, colonial violence etc
To be clear of course US citizenship matters! Whether you are from Latin America or not is an IMPORTANT consideration and axis of identity! What’s more you won’t have the direct experiences and perspectives Lat Ams do! However, it is NOT the only point of identity to consider
There is no monolithic national, racial or class dynamic in Lat Am, no monolitic citizenship experience, and not all Lat Ams are marginalized the same exact way, esp not the white colonizer class even when you take into consideration US Imperialism.
And just like how “Gringos” are miseducated by their colonial education, so are White Latinxs by their own white supremacist colonial assimilationists state narratives (mestizaje, Las Tres Razas, etc)

The idea that your misinformation is true bc it’s from Lat Am is...lmfaooo
White Lat Ams love to try and obscure their colonial position by comparing themselves to Latinxs in the US, but what of comparing themselves to Black and Indigenous people in their own countries? 👁👁
What’s more, rates for crime, femicide etc are high in the US and Canada for marginalized communities as well. It isn’t roses for many here. Broadly across the Americas are all experiencing the violence of the colonial world that white Latinxs help first bring and benefit from
Anyways I will always listen to Black Lat Ams tell me how my position as a mixed race US born American cannot at all ever be compared to theirs’! I will always be against US Imperialism! I am never here for the anti-Black, bigoted weaponizing of “Gringo” by white Latinxs.
