cool cool cool cool cool cool cool

so I'm gonna go point by point and explain why this is wrong 🙃 https://twitter.com/marysuewriter/status/1282927607718096896
Zuko ✓

Luke grew up thinking his dad was dead and his adoptive dad was Owen. he didn't meet his real father until adulthood

Kylo's dad from what we've seen was very emotionally detached and it's implied he was gone often focusing on other things rather than being a father. He
sacrificed himself because he knew he had hurt Ben and failed him as a father and thought it would make up for it, and possibly even turn him back to the light with the realization that even with Han gone he still wasn't happy. this is why Han is there when he turns to the light
Zuko was definitely not fundamentally good in the first part of ATLA. he hunted Aang mercilessly because he thought it was the only way to get his life back. he wanted his "evil" family to be in his life. its only later that he realizes that it's wrong

Luke ✓

Kylo's family was
NOT cool lol. I already explained his father but Leia was afraid. And she sent him away because of it. There's no way that Ben didn't know that. And that would've been extremely hurtful. And then of course she sent him to Luke who almost killed him. That would be traumatic. So
his father was MIA, his mother was afraid of him, and his uncle nearly killed him. He felt rejected by them all, plus had the pressure of trying to live up to everyone's expectations as the last of the Skywalker line.
ignore the first and last columns they suck

Zuko eventually listens to Iroh, after telling him to shut up for like 3 months straight. He also betrays Iroh but Iroh forgives him

Luke ✓

Kylo *had no good mentor* he had no one to help him. Luke should've been that mentor and he
not only failed, he pushed him over the edge. If Zuko hadn't had Iroh, he would've been just like Kylo. Kylo is probably closer to Azula than Zuko especially in this sense. Azula had no good influences. She didn't have an Iroh. Kylo didn't have an Iroh. That's not his fault.
these are all bullshit but I do want to address the first one because Kylo's mask addresses his character growth. Just like hair or fashion. Kylo was lying to himself and pushing down his true feelings by covering them with a mask and trying not to feel them.
anyway this is a stupid spreadsheet with no basis in facts or canon for either Star Wars or Avatar: The Last Airbender. I'm tired of both Azula and Kylo Ren being painted as one dimensional. And, because apparently this needs to be said:
IT IS INCREDIBLY DISRESPECTFUL TO MAKE FUN OF CHARACTERS THAT PEOPLE IDENTIFY WITH ESPECIALLY IF THEY IDENTIFY WITH THEM DUE TO SHARED TRAUMA. INVALIDATING THE CHARACTER'S TRAUMA MAKES REAL PEOPLE FEEL INVALIDATED
