I grew up 15 minutes from Brown University and I still didn’t know that institution existed until the eighth grade. In case you were wondering what impact Ivy League schools have on the communities they gentrify lmao.
That said, I had some lovely (white) Ivy League educated teachers who helped get me into Harvard. I’m just reflecting on the contradiction of feeling like I must be grateful for a place like Harvard when it’s places like Harvard that fucked my community in the first place
Remember we’re on native land 🤗 and abolish the Ivy League.
I’m grateful for Harvard’s contingent faculty because almost all of those who had the biggest impact on me were neither tenured nor even tenure-track...
My tweet should also not be taken to mean “omg we need to get more BIPOC into these schools!!” bc these institutions are harmful on the inside too, and they need to be completely reinvented first.
