WHY YOU SHOULDN'T BE SO QUICK TO BELIEVE THERE'S A GENOCIDE GOING ON IN XINJIANG: A THREAD 
i understand that when you hear this news, it is your instinct to go "oh no this is awful, we must do something about it" and thats perfectly valid. i don't blame anyone for believing, this, i believed it for a long time too. it's okay to be misinformed and tricked.
but the reality is
- there is no genocide of uygur people
- all chinese people are free to practise islam
- there is no organ harvesting of uygur muslims

first of all, it's important to understand that ALL news reports on this alleged genocide comes from 3 sources. radio free asia, chinese human rights defenders, and adrian zens. i'll go through why all three are unreliable.
RFA is CIA propaganda. they're not secretive about this at all. the CIA did operations like MKULTRA where they drugged civilians in hopes of making a manchurian candidate, recruited literal nazis, and invented and planted crack on african americans to increase incarceration
CHRD is funded by the national endowment for democracy and is an NGO. NED openly states on its website that it has evolved from the CIA's covert operations to install regimes round the world. nobody has fact checked the 3 million claim, and the UN has never investigated properly

adrian zenz is a LITERAL nutjob. he is a lecturer in china studies at a university but cannot even read or write chinese. it has now been removed from his wiki page but you can see in the talk section that he is openly homophobic, sexist and believes in beating children.
he also believes there is a christian genocide going on, that the dominant world philosophy is being controlled by the anti-christ, and thinks the rapture will happen any moment/ this man is a far-right christian and literally unhinged.
okay, so now we have that out of the way, we need to talk about xinjiang history. there is no smoke without fire. it is true that xinjiang reeducation camps exist, i'm not denying that. but they are for a very good reason.
this starts with the bloodiest war in chinese history and the bloodiest civil war ever - the taiping civil war from 1850 to 1864. a man believed he was the brother of christ, and sought to convert all chinese people to his form of christianity, and take over nanjing.
ever since this civil war, all chinese people have been slightly wary of religions being used to wage war. however, china has never ever banned anyone from practising religion. despite their horrible history, they are still unwaveringly tolerant of all religions.
but what about islam? islam has been practised in china for over 1300 years. 3% of the native chinese population is muslim, the hui people being the largest group of chinese muslims at about 11 million, and uygur being the 2nd largest, at 10 million.
it is true that up until 1978, chinese policy had been lenient on hate-crimes towards muslims. mosques have been defaced in the past by soldiers, which is completely indefensible. however, buddhists, daoists and christians were also targeted by thuggish soldiers.
if you look at the time period and compare the actions of the red guard to actions by japanese army (rape of nanjing) or american army (atrocities in vietnam) it sort of pales in comparison. sadly, no large country is able to control all their soldiers. still inexcusable tho
eventually, in 1988, the east turkistan islamic party was started. this was a jihadi terrorist organisation that frequently met with osama bin laden, al-qaeda and the taliban. they are not lead by muslim beliefs, but by a desire to seize power and control.
any self respecting muslim will tell you that neither god nor the quran condones terrorist activity. however the turkistan islamic party has commited dozens of terrorist acts. almost 1,100 people have been killed in these terrorist incidents. compare this to about 500 in europe.
clearly this shows that there is a large threat in china for extremist terrorism from TIP. xinjiang borders afghanistan and several other countries known for being terrorist hotspots. xinjiang is incredibly high risk for terrorist activity.
so yes, the chinese government had to do something in response. the goal of re-education camps is NOT to convert muslims to atheists, or kill all uygurs. it is to deradicalise terrorists so they don't commit atrocities. this is standard procedures in most countries.
it makes sense that most, if not all, of the people in xinjiang camps are muslim, as about 58% of the people in xinjiang are muslim, and 46% are uygur. statistically and logically, uygur muslims are the most at risk of being radicalised by terrorists, through no fault of theirs
so now we know that there are not 3 million people in genocide camps. but what if there are human rights violations in these reeducation camps? that is a very valid concern. you may have heard that they are being forced to eat pork and drink alcohol, which is haram
this is absolutely NOT true. the report comes from RFA, and all other news sites have cited RFA as their source. and even then it's exaggerated! what actually happened is that civillians were invited to a banquet, and the chinese officials thoughtlessly served pork and alcohol.
the officials also sent pork to (muslim & non muslim) households, as meat can be a costly resource in poor areas. yes it was dumb to send this to muslims, but it wasn't malicious. none of the guests were FORCED to eat or drink it. i imagine most people just threw it out
interestingly enough, only western countries have condemned the treatment of muslims in china. you should notice that the majority of muslim countries in the MENA region have voice support of china's policies. why would they support a muslim genocide if that were happening?

if there really was a genocide of uygur people, then why has the population of uygurs grown from 4 million in 1964 to 10 million present day? meanwhile, han population growth has been stagnating in comparison.
