1. @Keir_Starmer 's templated reply sent to loads of people impacted by the #LoanCharge is not only insulting it also shows how ill informed @UKLabour leadership & their front benches are on this matter. I will quote from the letter in this thread.
@Bill_Esterson @patmcfaddenmp
2. 'Labour have not opposed the Government’s changes to the loan charge...'

There were no Gov lchanges to oppose, there were changes proposed by @DavidDavisMP to support. Those changes would restore the access to normal judicial process which #LoanCharge removes.
@Keir_Starmer
3. 'Labour have not opposed the Government’s changes to #LoanCharge, as it is clamping down on tax avoidance schemes.'

@Keir_Starmer it's not clamping down on tax avoidance schemes it is penalising people who were advised to use the arrangements. Promoters get off scot-free
4. 'We have continually expressed concern about impact of #LoanCharge,particularly for those who were forced into these arrangements by employers. @ukLabour supported amendments that forced Gov to conduct a review.'

@Keir_Starmer You know the review was biased & changed nothing?
5. ' @UKLabour still believe that @HMRCgovuk have serious questions to answer.. & we have previously called for a right to an independent review..even more important given impact of the pandemic.'

@Keir_Starmer by blocking #NC31 you have left 50k people facing crippling bills.
6. ' @UKLabour has & will continue to call on Gov to examine how enablers of tax avoidance, such as promoters of disguised remuneration schemes, have been tackled by HMRC & ensure those engaged in these activities are held to account.'

7. @Keir_Starmer in 20yrs @HMRCgovuk did nothing to go after promoters of #LoanCharge arrangements. To cover up for their failures they retrospectively changed legislation to go after the little people who were advised to use arrangements. Promoters have simply walked away.
8. @Keir_Starmer how if promoters have broken no laws & gov won't change the law retrospectively to go after them @HMRCgovuk consider that end users have broken laws, although we didn't, & they retrospectively change the law to go after us? #LoanCharge https://twitter.com/BBCPolitics/status/1151820634646646784?s=19
9. @Keir_Starmer I would have thought that with a background in law you would:
(a) understand that retrospective legislation is an affront to the rule of law
(b) #LoanCharge simply removes access to judicial process which should be the right of every UK citizen.
10. @Keir_Starmer I'm shocked that by not supporting #NC31,which would not have removed any perceived tax liability, that you removed hope for 1000s that access to justice would be restored. You read the headlines spun by @HMRCgovuk @hmtreasury but not the full story
