A little thread about being a Detective for those maybe considering it. Let me start with, in the job there are literally 100s of roles that could excite anyone & be your dream role, i spent 10 years in uniform & throughly loved ever moment of it, i worked on Response team, Safer
2) neighbourhood, town centre team, did a stint in intel and even worked in public order communication (loved that, met some amazing people) the 2011 riots was literally my first deployment of that skill after having just qualified. I even had the absolute privilege to work on
3) one of the dedicated Olympic teams, extremely long hours but it was its own little bubble and was really cool! I then applied for the promotion process having spent 4 years as an A/PS only to dip the process. Heartbroken i actually almost resigned, my wife said why not become
4) a Detective before you leave...... "A suit!?" I never wanted to be a suit.... but for me its actually the best thing i ever did! I have been a Detective on Borough for the last 4 years. In those last 4 years i have had the chance to work with the likes of the NCA, FBI plus
5) many other from all around the world & at home. I have been investigated literally everything from murder, human trafficking, serious sexual offences, kidnaps, drug importation all the way through to what i do now investigating Online Child Sexual Abuse & Exploitation. Let me
6) say right now every role has its positives & negatives, you just need to find the role that makes you happy, whatever it is. As a Detective i have travelled across quite a bit of the UK for my jobs which has resulted in some extremely long custodial convictions at court. I
7) have had to do some really odd things like transport parts of body& #39;s to specialists for testing as part of an investigation. One of my favourite things is court when as OIC for a case you go over everything with the prosecution, i do feel it needs to be said that those working
8) in the CJS both prosecution & defence really do amazing work which can& #39;t & should never be over looked. I get to see a lot of this. The next logical step for me at some point would be to a central squad or promotion, the difficulty being right now is that i throughly love what
9) i do for a day job. For me personally being a Detective is one of if not the BEST roles within policing, but thats me, its what i enjoy. Its very different from any of the other roles i have done as a uniformed officer, most of which i have enjoyed but i have found me, what i
10) feel i do best. Yes the work load can feel overwhelming at times with long hours but that is policing. If anyone is thinking about it i would 100% say give it a go, you never know you may actually really enjoy it! Im glad i took the leap into a role i hadn& #39;t tried before
11) its allowed me to get involved in cases i never thought i would, see some amazing things, get to use some really cool equipment, trained in lots of different skills, travel and pick up some awesome stories along the way! #JobLikeNoOther #DetectiveLife
