You would think after the last "incident" and with that creating a negative name within a big part of the Arma 3 community this would be the end of the podcast after they released a "public announcement". This will be a (very very ) long thread...... 1/20 https://twitter.com/ArmaArtists/status/1283090891280982016
Within the #Arma3 (also in A2 and A1) community stealing content from our great mod makers and ripping it and releasing it as your own mod........ that has been a NO GO for years and you will be placed on a "naughty list" and will be blocked from most Arma3 official servers 2/20
This always has been a big issue within the modding community, but we never ever had eye for the artwork creators doing the same or using stolen/ripped content to create good artwork so they could compete against the other great artists that don't to get in that spotlight. 3/20
From the early days we had a small group of artwork/screenshot artists some even made official work for mods but some also for @Arma3official! But over the past few years a competition has been rising and with that challenging others to try to get in the spotlight in any way 4/20
Meaning they would go beyond the unwritten rules and use "stolen/ripped" content, and with the last podcast created by a few of those "artists" the openly announced they used "ripped/stolen" content in the past, and once this was pointed out they got called out on it 5/20
And once called out the damage was done, even 1 of them had a modpack with ripped content on his steamworkshop and pulled that off public, they did not get a ban on the A3 social media (discord/forums) while others who done the same did, but that was a decision by moderators 6/20
But with saying sorry they thought everything would be fine...... NO it is not: you don't deserve a spotlight in the community! You broke the rules, simple as that, even when others wanting to discuss it publicly on social media those persons got approached by DM by someone 7/20
To delete the tweet to stop the discussion........ why stop it? It is like among the modmakers a virus that needs to be stopped! Like I said it started with giving them a spotlight on social media, like me on twitter! I also take responsibility for this as I shared 8/20
Most of their content on twitter as a bit of a competition to share as much as possible, what actually could be expected from a community ambassador, but in the past I always took time and effort to search for quality above quantity and i failed on that part 9/20
I started retweeting more and more without looking for the (not stolen/ripped) screenshots/artwork with good quality (or people who want to grow as some even got good publicity after me retweeting them). So since the last incident you will have noticed some changes 10/20
I retweet not all those "artists" connected to these podcast, just saying "hey it happened: sorry let's move on the same path again" would also be a slap in the face in the mod making scene, as that is not accepted there also, so why should we for screenshots? 11/20
And the line was definitely drawn for me when the good people wanted to pull out and stop creating artwork/screenshots as those "others" ruined their way of working fair. And i also am partly the blame for that giving the other a spotlight. 12/20
For now some have been placed on my "naught list" and also working with others to keep that list filled up making sure the "bad content" does not get shared, or certain hastags being used don't get promoted (including the hastag or @ from the podcast!). 13/20
While on the background that group is advertising to use that hastag or @ to get a mention/like/retweet....... well:...... not by me or some other Arma3 ambassadors like @thebuckfastwine! If you want our attention.... don't get affiliated with a naughty name.14/20
We know there is a large group of screenshot artists who have a shared platform where they share ideas about ripped/stolen content, and more and more names are also mentioned by others to get them on our "naughty list" as the people who do deserve a spotlight get that spot 15/20
Like the modmakers we are cleaning house making the #Arma3 twitter timeline clear again of this bad virus, and share the good and fair content again, I also ask if you see something is wrong with screenshots I share: call me out! I will undo it and put him on a list. 16/20
Like is said: Who to blame? Also myself...... I was not looking for quality in screenshots to share anymore but went on going for more quantity and i really feel bad about this, but will also fight against it from now on! 17/20
With them continuing this podcast and them also telling others not to keep this discussion going on publicly feeds trying to let the candle burn out and to forget this is a issue......thats is not the way to go, just like in the modmakers scene! 18/20
Lines in the sand have been crossed, so if you use certain hastags or @(insert name)...... don't expect a retweet or like by me, I will not be associated with any of these bad things that have happened like as I would do the same with modmakers who steal/rip content! 19/20
Want to discuss this further you are more than welcome: lets do it in public! Let's not stick our heads in the sand, keep the discussion open, and if you know people who do use stolen/ripped content tell me and I will put them on my naughty list (as some already are!). 20/20
