They're defined by behaviour more than anything. Fae are idiosyncratic to a fault, capricious and bound by rules unfamiliar to mortals. They are the misunderstood.
When you look at all the myths, three things stand out. Fae are always different in Appearance, in Behaviour, and in Presence. You'll know when you meet one because they do not act, look, or think like you and they are alien to you and it adds up to a presence.
Fae myths are ancient queer narrative. As well as ancient disability narrative . They are the Other you must respect and play by the rules of, they are the fair folk of the woods.

And I am their descendants. Their beauty is in me, as well as their idiosyncrasy.
