1. bomba - i cant explain all of it myself so i am providing some pictures with explanations !!! this is really important for my family and other families in PR as well :^) theyre thing to teach it in some public schools
here’s a video from the ricardo rosello protests so u can maybe understand better by seeing it
2. plena - again here’s a short explanation nd i’ll provide a video below ! plena tends to be really fun and enjoyable
here’s a short video to show a little bit of what plena is like and so u can listen to it and get an idea of what it’s like
3. jibara - here is another short explanation !! i’ll provide a video of a parranda after
here’s a video showing a parranda :3 we usually do them around christmas time and they’re always very fun and include the whole ...... like whole family ! and the person in the house we go to usually has food for the people there 👍 very fun

this is them!!! ive acted like one before so from personal experience i can say it’s very fun + sometimes they’re in stilts like shown in the last picture :] they can almost always be seen in the festivals in PR
fiestas patronales - “Fiestas patronales in Puerto Rico are yearly celebrations held in each municipality of the island. Like in other countries, "fiestas patronales" are heavily influenced by Spanish culture and religion, and are dedicated to a saint or virgin.”
here are some examples of fiestas patronales:
(i won’t go into much detail about them since i dont really know MUCH about them besides corozal since that’s where i’m from)
christmas ! i won’t go into depth on this since the traditions are different in each family even if we have similar things but for us christmas lasts ... very long ... it can be from november up until january since we also celebrate three kings day
los tres reyes mangos / juana díaz:

here’s some more info on the three kings and how it’s celebrated in PR
this is all for now because there’s a lot more but i will just keep on adding over time !!!! bori oomfs pls comment w anything you’d like to add if u can 😢 like poets or anything
i’ll just add this as well bc even if it’s not part of our culture the things here have influenced us in some way or another https://twitter.com/vkusbf/status/1276981384654000131?s=21 https://twitter.com/vkusbf/status/1276981384654000131
fiestas de la calle san sebastián!!!
this is pretty popular so maybe some of you have heard of it before :p
traditional clothing !!!!
guayabera:
“The guayabera is the most distinctive and well-known garment from Puerto Rico. A kind of tailored shirt for men, it has patch pockets on the front and is usually worn over an undershirt. The fit is tailored but loose, to be worn over trousers
Often, the shirt has short slits on the side and is worn with a few buttons open, so the undershirt shows underneath. A traditional version of the guayabera, primarily used as formal wear, is made with fibers from the pineapple plant” it’s like this
here’s pictures of more traditional puertorican clothes that are usually used in dances like plena and bomba which i showed first in the thread
la noche de san juan:
