#InternationalNonbinaryDay challenge! skip the “identifies as” when you refer to us if you also skip it when you talk about cis people’s genders

(i welcome you to try referring to your cis friends as people who “identify as” their genders & see how that goes)
this is always about bodies & essentialism. my body is MINE to classify or un-classify. everything about sex & gender is constructed - there isn’t more “truth” to my socio-cultural assignment, or more “science” behind it
i have no interest in “denying” my body’s traits (“biology”) - in fact my relationship to them is almost entirely positive (and yes, i’m still trans). i just refuse to categorize them the same way as the oppressive western cis binary. i don’t categorize anyone’s bodies like that
100% of what i would describe as my dysphoria around being trans is a response to being non-consensually categorized & told how to relate to & behave in my own body. it’s not internal for me, it’s external, which is why i spend as much time with other trans folks as i can
so do me a favor & really think about whether you see trans (including non-binary) people as binary-gendered bodies with “different ideas” about our identities, or whether you are actually recognizing us as humans who ARE who we say we are, as equally as any cis person
