Every time I come across an account that has me blocked, it’s yet another #BeerTwitter white man https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Gesicht mit Freudentränen" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit Freudentränen"> And then there’s the small handful of white dudes on #BeerTwitter that UNblocked me sometime after my follower count reached over 1000 https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Gesicht mit Freudentränen" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit Freudentränen">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😂" title="Gesicht mit Freudentränen" aria-label="Emoji: Gesicht mit Freudentränen"> #UpsettingWhiteMenOnBeerTwitterSince2013
Another thing that& #39;s happening more now that I have a little bit of a following: I& #39;m getting tagged in more posts with the men that have/had me blocked. I believe in growth, AND: Some white men want to cash in on trends without making amends.
There& #39;s no way, that I know of, to check who has you blocked. So I just come upon folks randomly every so often. Maybe folks other than #BeerTwitter white men have blocked me, but I& #39;ve NEVER seen it (cue: a diverse set of patriarchy shills blocking me now!).
But let me be serious for a moment: I know my tactics can rub folks (*cough*whitemen*cough*) the wrong way. It& #39;s by design! And I know what you& #39;re thinking—more flies with honey! But I *promise* it& #39;s a holistic approach, it& #39;s calculated, and I have positive results to prove it.
Because genuinely: Why would I make my career harder—why risk it all together—if it wasn’t for the greater good? I understand who has the power in our industry (epic spoiler: it’s white men), and I know I trouble them. I’m not perfect but I am planful—and my methods work.
I believe in a diversity of tactics. What works for me may not work for you. I myself use a lot of different ones! I pick based on the situation, person, and my personal strengths, etc. I *strongly* recommend more privileged folks take on riskier tactics. https://twitter.com/stasiabrew/status/1188187918025687040?s=21">https://twitter.com/stasiabre...
I was asked via DM to clarify more about “holistic approach”—in general I refer to the a diversity of tactics mentioned above, and an eye on the long game. But above all: I strive to center marginalized folks, vs white men. I’m not terribly concerned with white male comfort.
I was also asked what kind of positive results I’ve seen—great question! There are a lot. An anecdote: These past two weeks I’ve had two #BeerTwitter white men DM me to say something like, “Sometimes I don’t like what you say. Then I sit with it and realize you’re right.”
Men telling me something I said/did made them uncomfortable and then sparked positive change is a common experience for me on AND offline. I deeply appreciate these folks, their openness to growth, and their vulnerability with me. They are helping create a more just future https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤️" title="Rotes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Rotes Herz">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🍻" title="Anstoßende Bierkrüge" aria-label="Emoji: Anstoßende Bierkrüge">
But as I said—centering white men is not my mission. Instead, I strive for marginalized folks to feel safe and valued in beer. So when I say things that make white men bothered but marginalized folks more comfortable—that’s still 100% a win.
That goal of de-centering of white men? It actually kinda comes back around to make my inital tweet in this thread stand as evidence in-and-of itself—note: I’ve been blocked by #BeerTwitter white men, and to my knowledge, #BeerTwitter white men only. https://twitter.com/stasiabrew/status/1283116694471229441?s=21">https://twitter.com/stasiabre... https://twitter.com/stasiabrew/status/1283116694471229441">https://twitter.com/stasiabre...
