I’ve never felt sad about a celebrity’s death b4 Naya Rivera, but this has really messed with me. Partly, how she died: Saving her son.Partly, Bc of her legacy, perfectly captured by @DanaPiccoli.As a young, queer WOC it was amazing to see Santana’s journey https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/naya-rivera-missing-no-more-glee-star-s-queer-legacy-ncna1233696
And she played it so powerfully, with her acerbic defensiveness&heartbreaking vulnerability. The power of storytelling, especially for people who don’t often see themselves reflected, should not b underestimated. It is cathartic&empowering—&that’s what she did for many young queers
Part of the power of her performance was the literal and emotional range of her stunning singing voice. My heart breaks for this loss — for everything she’ll miss out on as a mother and for her son, deprived of having a mom, not to mention her loved ones — but her legacy endures
