For those who say Cancel Culture Isn& #39;t Real, a museum curator was accused of being a white supremacist because he—get this—said that he would still curate *some* art created by white men. Totally inoffensive, yet he was branded a racist and forced out. https://reason.com/2020/07/14/gary-garrels-san-francisco-museum-modern-art-racism/">https://reason.com/2020/07/1...
"Gary& #39;s removal from SFMOMA is non-negotiable," read the petition to fire him. "Considering his lengthy tenure at this institution, we ask just how long have his toxic white supremacist beliefs regarding race and equity directed his position curating the content of the museum?"
The sum total of his "toxic white supremacist beliefs" was... saying it would also be a form of discrimination to not accept art because the artist was white. Not only this is NOT racist, it& #39;s something the overwhelming majority of people agree with.
Yet we are beholden to a small cabal of insanely intolerant people who think a benign clarification is all the evidence necessary to convict a man of white supremacy and un-person him accordingly. https://reason.com/2020/07/14/gary-garrels-san-francisco-museum-modern-art-racism/">https://reason.com/2020/07/1...
This is exactly the kind of thing I gather the Harper& #39;s letter signers—people like @jessesingal and @kittypurrzog —were warning about, by the way. Hard to say they are entirely off base when this is becoming routine. https://reason.com/2020/07/14/gary-garrels-san-francisco-museum-modern-art-racism/">https://reason.com/2020/07/1...
