Just a reminder: The fight for Democracy in the Philippines isn't something that ended when the EDSA Revolutions ended. Oligarchies have always existed, and continue to exist. Duterte didn't end them. He even continues to empower the system that supports them.
The continued entrenchment of power among a select few prove why elections fail time and time again to produce a leader capable of truly representing the people's sentiments. It's why we're all caught in a vicious cycle of power-play which leaves us disadvantaged and crippled.
Our leaders continue to forward their self-interest and the whims of their political allies. With their refusal to listen to the masses, they decide to disrespect Democracy by forgetting what Democracy truly stands for: the voice and power of the toiling masses.
Forgive me for writing this thread in an account supposed to be meant for fiction and literature. I just want to tell you guys that Democracy will never reach its absolute form, but what's important is that we stay vigilant in trying to fight for its aspects that we CAN fight for
Whenever a dictator is placed in power, it is our job as the masses to remind ourselves that we are a democratic republic and that it is our responsibility to disempower the ones who strip us of our rights this democracy has given us.
