I am of the opinion that COVID-19 will run its natural course regardless of restrictions which we will put. The disease is highly contagious and spreads stealthily. Our efforts should be towards protecting the vulnerable and increasing the capacity to treat those who fall sick
Epidemiologists have always said that lockdowns don’t reduce the number of cases but rather delay spread allowing time to prepare for case management. SA is a good example. They had one of the strictest lockdown in the World, delayed transmission but now they are in the top 10
So cases will inevitably increase when a lock down ends. We should be making sure that nurses’ strike is addressed, hospitals are capacited and isolate the elderly and those with conditions which might compromise their immunity!
