We just got our first look at Ghislaine Maxwell over a video feed from MDC Brooklyn. She's sporting a brown jail uniform and appeared (unsurprisingly) anxious ahead of a bail hearing set to start at 1 p.m.
Maxwell hearing highlighting just how disruptive COVID has been to the courts. Sound isn't great. Maxwell's confirmation she can hear the proceeding is choppy, and Judge Nathan had to call the case herself because her deputy seems to have fallen off the call.
Judge Nathan notes the case has "garnered significant public interest." A call-in line for the public reached capacity with 500 listeners. They've expanded capacity to 1,000 listeners.
Maxwell pleads "not guilty your honor" to charges of lying under oath and enticing minors into Jeffrey Epstein's sex abuse scheme.
Three victims oppose Ghislaine Maxwell receiving bail. At least one is expected to speak during today's hearing.

AUSA Alison Moe says a trial will last three weeks, including jury selection. Trial set for July 12, 2021.
Moe: "The defendant has been moving from place to place for some time."
"It appears she spent the last year trying to conceal her whereabouts."
AUSA Moe sheds light on Maxwell's claim she was in touch with the government after Epstein's arrest. That was because, Moe said, Maxwell was served with a grand jury subpoena. "The government's communications with defense counsel have been minimal."
AUSA Moe skeptical of info Maxwell provided on her finances, calling it "Limited, unverified and questionable.” Maxwell claimed she has a "monthly income of nothing. Zero dollars per month of income."
AUSA Moe says that Ghislaine Maxwell posed as a journalist, "Janet Marshall" when considering whether to buy her $1 million New Hampshire hideaway. Maxwell told the feds she only had permission to stay in the home and that she didn't know name of corporation that bought the home
The feds pulled bank account info listing Ghislaine Maxwell's annual income as $200,000 to $500,000 and net worth of $10 million+
Maxwell, AUSA Moe says, has proposed staying at a luxury Manhattan hotel while out on bail. Which hotel would agree to that plan?
A statement from a Maxwell victim using the name Jane Doe addresses "the sociopathic manner in which she nurtured our relationship and abused my trust….she would have done anything to satisfy Mr Epstein...If she is out. I need to be protected."
In brief remarks over the phone Epstein victim Annie Farmer calls Ghislaine Maxwell "a sexual predator."
Maxwell attorney Mark Cohen emphasizes threats she's received. Says his firm has also received threats. The menacing messages are another factor showing she deserves bail, he says. He says it's false Maxwell is "a rootless, aimless sinister person."
Cohen says defense team has been in touch with govt. at least 8 to 10 times in last year. Maxwell's team was "urging" the govt not to indict her and "implying" she was willing to surrender if necessary, rather than be arrested at home.
Cohen's take on that cellphone wrapped in tin foil: It was hacked after Maxwell's email was made public through a civil suit. To prevent it from being hacked again she put it in a Faraday bag.
Cohen calls the indictment "an effort to dance around" the non prosecution agreement Epstein and his associates received in 2007.
AUSA Moe asks "why on earth" the govt would seek Ghislaine Maxwell's voluntary surrender when she is a flight risk? Moe also notes Maxwell's lawyers refused to accept service on her behalf for civil suits, raising Qs about her willingness to participate in court process
