Thread: You’re Mueller. Who do you trust: Rosenstein or McCabe.

Mueller knew both Rosenstein and McCabe professionally and by reputation. He knew McCabe very well, having handpicked him for some of the most sensitive investigations he handled. So who did he trust?
Mueller would have known Rosenstein as a career prosecutor with both ambition and the survivor mentality of a sycophant.

Mueller would have known McCabe as one of the brightest stars in the FBI, who brought down the Boston Marathon bombers and foiled a bomb plot on a jetliner.
Now you learn that Rosenstein wrote a phony memo justifying the firing of Comey, a man for whom you have deep respect.

So you meet with McCabe first, without Rod, and McCabe tells you Rosenstein is compromised. Trump has him over a barrel on obstruction.
Knowing all this, you see that Rosenstein has tasked you as Special Counsel to take over a year-old investigation of particular members of the Trump, campaign, but not Rosentein’s boss, Donald Trump.
And when you meet with McCabe he tells you that he helped ensure you only got the Trump campaign case and not the Trump case but he feared Rosenstein would fire you and shut down the Trump investigation.

This is the hand Mueller was dealt. So how does he play that hand?
I’ll tell you how I’d play that hand. I’d be the Stalking Horse. I’d take all the fire and let the FBI work in obscurity from the media and Trump’s wrath. I’d soak up Trump’s venom and spit it out.

And I’d pray like hell that this little plan McCabe cooked up actually works.
Speaking of which, did you know that after Mueller’s first meeting with McCabe’s Crossfire Hurricane team (the one they left Rosenstein out of), Mueller insisted Lisa Page join his team? What do you suppose Page told him in that meeting that impressed him so? I think I know. 😉
Spoiler: I believe Page was the mastermind of the plan to split the case with Mueller and keep the Trump case with FBI. She and McCabe knew Rosenstein couldn’t be trusted. McCabe tasked her with coming up with a plan, Baker helped her perfect it, but I think Page was the genius.
