This is such a ridiculous cycle. Everyone was #LuchoOut and after 6 months of Valverde all was forgiven and forgotten. Everyone was #ValverdeOut and now after 6 months of Setien all is forgiven and forgotten. The only person no one (but me) seemed to miss is Tata fucking Martino. https://twitter.com/Fcbarcelonna_/status/1282948626071748608
The club owe Valverde an apology because the timing and manner of his sacking was distateful and tactless and he deserved better in that respect. Credit for what he accomplished, especially in his first season when the club was in relative turmoil, but I don't miss him.
If you're someone who gave him credit for his rights & criticisms for his wrongs, what do you owe him an apology for? And it's not like he was perfect this season. Barça were appalling away from home - still are - and the quality of the team regressed. But I'm supposed to forget?
You can hate Setien and think he's done a shit job, I'm not bothered. But that doesn't mean everything was rosy under Ernesto. Still, he should have seen out the season or, better yet, been fired at the end of last season. The way it was handled didn't help him, Setien or Barça.
But again, what am I supposed to miss? Lucho left a lot of shit for Valverde to clean up. Valverde found a way to initially do that superbly but ultimately left a bunch of shit of his own for Setien to clean up. Setien hasn't quite figured out how to do that just yet.
If he can't, then fine, he'll go too and the club takes another two steps back to hire someone up to clean up his shit AND Valverde's. Unless there's a change in the board and the squad is substantially overhauled, this is what the nature of the job is now. No blank slates.
Most importantly, I can't believe all you godless heathens don't miss Tata Martino. Iconic pistachio polo shirt and othing but good vibes and weekend asados for everyone. (Also planted the seed for a more 'vertical' Barça which Lucho took to a whole new level with MSN but hey)
