I’m Deaf & don’t see an issue with wearing masks or asking someone to move their mask. I’ve not met 1 person who gave attitude or refused to do so. If they did, I’d complain. I wear masks to prevent you or I getting COVID. #AskDeafPeopleTheirOpinion
‘Oh but such and such a person had a bad experience where someone wouldn’t remove the mask’ - the issue isn’t the mask, the issue is the staff/company/dept and that’s why the word ‘complain’ exists.
‘Wear a clear mask or visor’ - you do realise how uncomfortable they are and can only be worn for short periods of time
We Deaf people are the most adaptable people, I’m pretty sure we have the ability to go ‘here luv, move your mask down so I can lipread ye’ or alternatively, ask for them to write stuff down... ya know? How we’ve been doing it the last however many years
Oh and if your an organisation that isn’t led by a Deaf person or a majority Deaf group - don’t speak on my behalf as an advocacy group. You could... I dunno... use your Deaf staff and Deaf board members?
