First of all, the Helper/Comforter/Spirit of Truth is identified as the Holy Spirit. This alone is enough to demonstrate that Muhammad isn’t the comforter but I’ll go on to show how the claim is impossible within the context of John.

Second of all, the description of the Comforter definitely doesn’t work for Muhammad, I’m pretty sure people saw Muhammad and he definitely doesn’t dwell within Muslims.

In addition, The comforter is said to be sent by Jesus, this definitely contradicts Islamic theology where Muhammad is sent by God, not Jesus.

Most importantly, reading the context of John shows that Jesus was making a prophecy to the disciples, not Christians a couple hundred years later. The comforter was supposed to aid the disciples after Jesus’s departure.

Now to respond to some common objections, some Muslims would like to say that the Holy Spirit isn’t the comforter since he was already with the disciples. Of course a plain reading of John demonstrates this to be false, a couple chapters after Jesus promises the Comforter,

We find Jesus telling the disciples to “Recieve the Holy Spirit”, which implies the apostles didn’t have it during John 16.
