Furcron is a mother and a grandmother. She told us the protests were personal for her after losing her son earlier this year. 2/
Around 8 p.m. officers made another attempt to clear the La Mesa police department parking lot. 3/
Furcron moved back, sipped from what appeared to be a Red Bull can, and tossed the can aside. Six seconds later she was shot with a beanbag. 4/
Police later said she was targeted because she threw an object. La Mesa police chief Walt Vasquez said he believed that object was the can. 5/
Furcron spent 9 days in the hospital. Several in the ICU according to her attorney. It’s unclear if she will ever regain vision in her left eye. /fin
