In the wake of the new cases, the P.E.I. government is asking that anyone who travelled from Toronto to Charlottetown on July 2 on WestJet flight 654 and is experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 call 8-1-1 to arrange for testing.
BREAKING: Prince Edward Island has 1 new COVID-19 case, an essential worker in his 30s who travelled internationally recently. He has been self-isolating since his arrival on P.E.I., says Dr. Heather Morrison. This case is not related to the 2 most recent cases, she said.
There have been no positive coronavirus tests among the already-tested Queen Elizabeth Hospital patients and staff who had come in contact with the man whose diagnosis was announced Monday, Morrison said. More tests are being conducted among other contacts of the medical worker.
Morrison says that as of July 12, a total of 133 warnings had been issued involving breaches of public health's COVID-19 rules, mostly for not isolating as required. Officials did 367 compliance checks and 28 charges were laid.
The latest essential worker to test positive for COVID-19 on Prince Edward Island is not a health care worker, Morrison says. Extra testing is now being planned for essential workers on days 1, 3 and 7 if they have travelled outside the Atlantic bubble region, she added.
Morrison says anyone who had contact with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital ER staff member 7 or more days ago will need just 1 test for the coronavirus. But people who had contact with him more recently will need another test at 7 or 8 days since exposure.
