A 15yo Black girl was incarcerated in juvi for not keeping up w/her homework after her school switched to online learning for the pandemic. A judge ruled this violated her probation & makes her a “threat to (the) community.”

The terms of the probation prior to "violating" it included a GPS tether, regular check-ins w/a court caseworker, counseling, no phone & the use of the school laptop for educational purposes only and required to do her schoolwork.

As appalling as it may seem to some, this is quite normal in communities of color where children w/disabilities get criminalized disproportionately.
