when i was but a little gatito, i studied (amongst other things) economics

one of the amazing things about then going on to work in business and markets was watching it turn out to be real.

there's price dropping to MC of the marginal producer.

there's regulatory capture.

etc
you can read all the theory and grasp it on a blackboard, but you never really understand it until you actually live in it and see it happen for real.

you will never really internalize the process and truly believe the theory

it's the difference between sex ed and having sex.
this is why 2020 has left me so chagrined.

because i knew all about propaganda and dogmatic, dishonest, totalitarian fascism. i have studied the dark period of the 19-teens and the 1930's and seen how jingoistic media and politicians can be.

but i never really understood.
i thought ideas like the blue eagle of the national recovery act (a disastrous set of price and commercial controls that helped deepen and prolong the great depression by using outright fascist doctrine and symbolism) were quaint, like a pilgrim bonnet.
intellectually, i knew they were real but somewhere deep down, i did not really believe in them. we're smarter now. more cosmopolitan. we have too much access to real information. americans would never fall for something so tired and clearly wrong again.

oops.
the early rumbles of this have been around for years with protectionism and anti-immigration sentiment. both are economically illiterate views that accomplish the opposite of what they seek to. they do not save industries or jobs. they cost them wholesale.

but they sound good
we got similar rumblings in the social sphere around all manner of topics many of which, like gender, have now become so charged and the attacks on those with the "wrong" views have become so relentless and outlandish that it's even a little scary to type "gender" here.
that alone should give pause. no society can be free when there are topics that cannot be discussed

the antidote for "wrong views" is open debate, not outright suppression

suppression makes such ideas stronger by revealing the intellectual & moral bankruptcy of the suppressor
to demand that ideas and opinions be suppressed to promote freedom and equality is positively orwellian

it's rank hypocrisy and tyranny of the other side masquerading as pluralism and tolerance

but impose it viciously and frequently enough and everyone self-censors out of fear.
over and over we have seen lenin's dictum that "a lie told often enough becomes the truth" proven out.

worse, we've seen it mate with the doctrine of "the big lie" where one tells a lie so whopping that no one can believe anyone would lie so infamously, so it must be true.
one reads the chapters in 1984 on double-think & the repeated abuse in the "ministry of peace" to force a man to see 5 fingers held up when his oppressor is clearly holding up 4 and finds it intellectually interesting but you really do not understand it in the manner that matters
it has not been done to you

but others did. my friends from russia and eastern europe and venezeula and cuba who have lived under just such things have all been howling in fear and concern for the US.

they already knew in their bones what was coming

it happened to them before
then 2020 hit and this went supernova. i watched 30 years of sound and tested epidemiological pandemic doctrine get tossed in an instant because some deluded demagogues lied about deaths rates, hospitals, and spread a catchy slogan. "flatten the curve" https://twitter.com/boriquagato/status/1280990976694083585?s=20
i watched a nearly a whole country (probably illegally) placed under house arrest. but hey, it's just two weeks? right?

remember that one? "two weeks to flatten the curve?"

leaving aside that it was made up twaddle, it was catchy and a call to action for scared people.
and that was half the battle: once a people are scared, you can get them to do all kinds of things.

they no longer think rationally and gravitate to whoever seems strong and confident however stupid their oft bellowed advice is.

this was done to america.
and americans folded like a cheap beach chair. we went meekly home and stayed in to "do our part" having never asked for the evidence this was a real solution.

and our "experts" turned on us because it benefited them.

this was cheer led by politicians who elevated them.
this is the next "big lie".

any time you hear a politician say "they are on the side of science" it's a 99.9% indicator that they are lying.

if they say "this is science not politics" it rises to 100%.

those really on the side of science do not say such things.
this has been used as a political smokescreen to fuel an epic gaslighting campaign.

"i have a scientist who says so, i cannot be political!" is an appalling lie.

how did you choose that scientist? there are many scientists with many opinions.
choosing one with fringe views and ignoring the rest while presenting his views as doctrinaire gospel is literally the definition of "political."

at the risk of invoking goodwin, you know who else had LOTS of scientists "validating" his policies back in the 1930's and 40's..?
and so "two weeks of noble sacrifice" dressed up as "maybe this will be a bit of fun and a little staycation" stretched to 4 months. the economy took a hit not seen in generations. the goalposts moved to test more and eradicate cases, clearly incompatible goals.
liberty got grabbed in the name of anti-scientific populist pandering and lockdown, social control, control over every business and every person rose to levels not seen since WW2.

"models" got called reality. then they ALL failed because they were junk the day they were created
certain internet cats warned about this back in march.

(but, like cassandra, no one ever believes cats until it's too late...) https://twitter.com/boriquagato/status/1235915091914211331?s=20
the same felines saw this one coming too.

we're now at the stage where whipping up fear again and using it to take your rights is the path to political power. https://twitter.com/boriquagato/status/1282751966712664065?s=20
i was silly enough to think people would see cuomo for what he was: the architect of the single worst set of COV policy on earth. he and his new jersey mini-me would (if they were independent) be the 2 worst countries on earth for cov deaths per capita https://twitter.com/gummibear737/status/1282765079285506048?s=20
nope. trot out a silly poster, declare victory over and over, and claim it was not you who failed, but the states that succeeded that did.

this is "the big lie" to a degree that would have made herr goebbels blush. https://twitter.com/boriquagato/status/1280871098028920833?s=20
and this desperately needs to be opposed.

those who fail to learn from history are destined to repeat it, but how can one learn from history when it is revisioned by demagogues into a fabric of lies?

if you doubt this can happen, read a high school textbook about "the new deal"
they all claim it worked. they literally describe the poison that caused prolonged the great depression as the medicine that cured it.

it's like pushing cigarettes as cure for lung cancer.

so wake up and smell what is being shoveled here before they bury you in it.
he who controls the past controls the future and the history that will allow 2020 to happen again is being written RIGHT NOW.

assess it critically.

make your own choices.

resist indoctrination.

the life and liberty you save may be your own.
