The "first Black Photographer" sometimes this news feels complicated but this says more about the institution than the artist which we should still celebrate really happy for Dario Calmese 📸💥. https://twitter.com/vanityfair/status/1282998215743332352
"The First Black _______" is a direct call out to how systematically oppressive our society and industry are. We're literally counting instances of undoing the fabric of this, while recognizing all of the chips stacked agaisnt us collectively.
. @VanityFair Things we would love to see :

1. Expound on how you arrived at such a place of hiring the first Black photographer after decades of covers.

2. Provide actionable next steps on how you will you continue to stand by underrepresented image makers in art / media.
3. When we say Black Photographers that includes All Black photographers including Queer, Trans, Gender nonconforming Black people.

4. Assign non-Black talent and subjects to Black Photographers as well. 🤎📸
With that said... WE MOVE.
