Goalkeeper Match Day Dividends

[A Thread]

Using @IndexGain's Historic Match Day Scores I have manually input each winner of Match Day Dividends for Goalkeepers.

#FootballIndex #Goalkeepers #TOTM
The data for this analysis is taken from @IndexGain.

It includes International Match Days (Euro Qualifiers) & European fixtures (Champions & Europa League).

I have also created two samples, one before the break in football and one that includes all games played this season.
I shall start with the sample that includes all games played this season for completeness.

I will also incorporate the new Team of the Month Dividends into my analysis for both samples.

If anyone wants the list of each Match Day Winner, just send me a message.
Firstly I shall display tables for the following:
- Top 10 Dividend Returners (Excluding TOTM)
- Top 10 Dividend Returners (Including TOTM)
- Top 10 Yield (Excluding TOTM)
- Top 10 Yeild (Including TOTM)
Some Dividend returns and Yields are clearly far more impressive than others.

Although, I do feel it is important to think about why this might be.

Some keepers play for better teams, so may increase their chances of a clean sheet and win bonus.
Here are the Average Winning Scores for each Match Day Type:
The table below shows the % of goalkeepers who kept a Clean Sheet and the % of goalkeepers who were awarded a Win bonus for each Match Day Type.

Sample size also included in the table under the "Count" column.
Therefore, despite goalkeepers in weaker teams are more likely to face more shots to save, the additional bonuses have a considerable impact on who takes home the Dividends.

It may explain why Manuel Neuer tops 3 of the 4 tables previously displayed.
Age of Goalkeepers

In my opinion the age of the goalkeepers is important. They are most often the oldest player in the starting eleven. So will they retire before they are able to return their price in Dividends?
Yield Consistency

Due to the prices of goalkeepers being rather low, it a few pence in dividends either way can really swing the Yield of a goalkeeper.

Although, this may be somewhat balanced out by the dividends being far more predictable due to less goalkeepers playing.
Fixture Trading

Trading in and out of goalkeepers could be extremely rewarding within some months.

Timing a goalkeeper trade well could see you win some Match Day Dividends, claim the Team of the Month Dividends and win a few In-Play Dividends from Clean Sheets.
With that, here are the 4 tables I previously displayed for Top 10 returners and yields pre COVID-19:
Here are also the Average Winning Scores for this sample:
I hope this thread has been of some use to you.

There are also plenty of other people doing research on this topic that may be doing so from a different angle and worth considering.

I aimed to create this with minimal bias involved and to let the data do the talking.
