Happy Nonbinary Awareness Week to Us! 🙌✨❤️

The pronouns around here are (and have beeeeen) they/them. https://twitter.com/africa_queer/status/1282902828009259009
When I was a twitter newbie and on C*rateZim maybe 5 years ago, a Zimbabwean media fave insulted me and added “he or she” for spice. Someone said “is it a boy or girl?” He said “I don’t know”. He was right 😂 thanks boo 😘
As the poster above says, there is no right way to experience gender. Furthermore you don’t have to understand what being non-binary means to respect my gender-identity. It what what it is and all you have to do is carry on with yours and not misgender me.
Because conversations about gender identity & sexual anatomy don’t happen often on Zim Twitter, I’ll add here that intersex people deserve love & respect. In practicing that love & respect, it’s important to acknowledge that being non-binary and being intersex are different.
I will not speak for intersex people, and no intersex slander based on ignorance will be tolerated here or anywhere else. I will also not pretend to know anything about the connection between non-binary identity and being intersex. But this had to be said.
Onward. Beyond my albinism I don’t talk about my other identity markers often. It doesn’t change that since I was a child I’ve felt whole knowing that I am person who does not connect with being called woman. It’s been a long road towards accepting that I’m complete either way.
I’m very grateful to the therapist who asked me many moons ago what my pronouns are when I’m all alone, then reassured me that I have a right to live loudly as the they I am. I’m very grateful for the friends I told who went ,” Thats wonderful!” Or “That makes hella sense”.
Remember that NOBODY ON THIS EARTH owes you an education, an aesthetic, a vocal range, a personality, fame, wealth or anything else for you to accept them as an entire human being worthy of respect, validation and community.
