Best wishes to all the Hindus and Sikhs on Guru Har Krishan ji’s Parkash Purab.

Doing a small thread to tell you more about Guru Har Krishan ji as most of the Indian history books outside Punjab hardly talk about Sikh valour:
1. Guru Har Krishan ji was the eighth of the ten Sikh Gurus.

2. He became a Guru at the age of 5 and remains the youngest Sikh Guru to this date. He was also fondly called as Bal Guru.

3. He was born in Shivalik Hills to the seventh Sikh Guru, Guru Har Rai ji and Krishen Devi.
4. Guru Har Krishan’s father, Guru Har Rai ji had extended his support to Aurangzeb’s unorthodox, slightly liberal-minded brother, Dara Shikoh who propagated Sufi Islam as opposed to Aurangzeb’s orthodox Sunni ideology.

This angered Aurangzeb and he summoned Guru Har Rai ji.
5. In the war of succession to the Mughal Empire throne, Dara Shikoh was defeated and executed by his younger brother, Aurangzeb. A revengeful Aurangzeb wished to punish Guru Har Rai for having supported Dara Shikoh.

Guru ji sent his elder son, Ram Rai to Delhi to represent him.
6. Aurangzeb being Aurangzeb held the 13-year-old Ram Rai as hostage. Ram Rai was tortured and asked to explain a verse in Guru Granth Sahib originally known as Adi Granth which Aurangzeb found offensive to Islam and Muslims.

7. Ram Rai changed the verse to appease Aurangzeb.
8. This embarrassed and angered Guru Har Rai ji and he excommunicated Ram Rai for changing the verse in the Guru Granth Sahib instead of standing up to Aurangzeb.

9. This is why, Guru Har Rai ji nominated Guru Har Krishan, his younger son, as the next Sikh Guru.
10. Meanwhile, Aurangzeb was very pleased with Ram Rai and rewarded him with generous grants in Dehra Dun.

11. As soon as the five-year-old, Har Krishan became the next Sikh Guru, Aurangzeb summoned him to Delhi. Aurangzeb’s plan was to replace him with Ram Rai as the Sikh Guru.
12. The purpose of Aurangzeb was to create dissensions between the two brothers to wreck the Sikh Panth.

13. Guru Har Krishan ji was unwilling to go to Delhi but Hindu king, Raja Jai Singh invited him to his bungalow, Jaisinghpura palace as Delhi’s Sikhs longed for his darshan.
14. On his arrival in Delhi which was then in the clutches of plague, Guru Har Krishan ji contracted small-pox. Before he could meet Aurangzeb, he succumbed to the disease. His last words were “Baba Bakala.”

15. The ninth Guru, Tegh Bahadur ji was from the same village, Bakala.
16. After Guru Har Krishan ji breathed his last, Raja Jai Singh constructed a small tank over the well that the Guru used during his stay and converted his bungalow, Jaisinghpura Palace into a Gurudwara in the memory of the Guru.

17. That Gurudwara is called Bangla Sahib today.
18. Guru Har Krishan ji, the eighth Guru of Sikhs who died at the tender age of 7 has millions of Sikh followers and is also a revered figure among Hindus.
