Okay I don’t usually talk about situations like these but I’m sick of seeing antis currently using Catholicism as a way to slander Ego like these incorrect statements annoy and anger me to no avail so let make a short thread with some of the incorrect things I’ve heard

1) I saw someone say that this is cultural appropriation???? Because apparently the Virgin Mary is a staple of Mexican culture????? I mean yes I’ll agree that she is a prominent figure but the Virgin Mary does not just belong to Mexican culture she is a religious figure

1 cont) as a child of parents from Mexico and Nicaragua who has been exposed to both cultures I can say that the Virgin Mary is NOT a part of a single culture (she is a part of many) and she cannot be claimed by a single culture as she is a RELIGIOUS figure NOT a CULTURAL one

2) as a catholic i was taught that we do not PRAISE idols/statues and it aggravates me to see ppl say that we do from what I remember, the Bible clearly states that we are not to praise them and that the only one we should be praising is God

3) the Virgin Mary was not used in a disrespectful manner in the Ego mv she was placed in an alter surrounded by candles like she should be? The image was not mistreated in any way shape or form

I doubt this thread will get any views but I had to throw in my two cents in and vent this out if anyone does have questions though or wants to further discuss this I’m always here to continue the convo
