The Game People Play
Politics,or as we call it in Hindi, Rajneeti are the activities associated with the governance of a country or area, especially the debate b/w parties having power.Or simply put, gameplay set up by the people who have mastered the art of playing mind games.
Indian politics was an art started by the Indian National Congress in 1951, which single-handedly drew the picture for us till 1977, and then continued filling in strokes until 2014, when BJP finally took the steering wheel in their hand.
Even though the INC seemed like an unbreakable force, its downfall started 2014 and since then, it has only been degraded further. They say, “to keep your power strong at front, you need to keep your internal ties the strongest”. And this is where the INC faced issues.
Not only is there a dispute between the ruling party, BJP and INC, but the internal disputes within INC aren’t hidden as well. And one such example of this dispute is the Pilot-Gehlot altercation.
Let’s start at the very beginning. Sachin Rajesh Pilot began his political career in 2004 when he was elected from the Dausa constituency. Being the youngest MP member at the age of 26, he has always had a strong image in the gameplay that is politics.
Being elected as the president of Rajasthan Congress or RPCC in 2014,it was very prominent that he might be elected as the Chief Minister in the elections of 2018. But, as we all know how pure-hearted & genuine our beloved congress is,it chose Ashok Gehlot as the CM of Rajasthan.
This agitated Pilot and ever since there has been a cold war between the two. Both of them have often made public statements pointing towards each other without naming each other, which has been adding the minor details that are needed for the final reveal.
And finally, Pilot decided to raise his voice, which he should have done a long time ago. He decided to go against the INC and join the BJP, taking inspiration from his colleague, Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Pilot's always portrayed himself as a rebel, but being so intertwined with INC,even though he brushed his strokes well,he forgot that the canvas has its borders too.
Aiming directly at Gehlot has not only tainted Pilot’s image as being petulant, over-ambitious,& narrow-visioned but also showed him as someone who's just hungry for power & doesn’t care about the state. Pilot didn’t acquire the wrong anger,he just placed it wrongly.
And his anger is justified, in a way. He has worked very hard towards earning the place where he is, and thus wants what he deserves. But as the human mind works, he wanted a bit too much too quickly. And that is where the trouble began.
Gehlot saw this opportunity well in advance,& fanned out his plan so precisely, that if you think about it, it may seem like something Pilot did on his own. After all, only a true politician can do so.And who truer than some of the oldest members of the oldest political party
Let us look at the plan Gehlot laid out carefully.
Gehlot, amongst the rest, knew that Pilot was disheartened when the 2018 election results came out. And instead of attacking him directly, he took his time to make Pilot realise there was absolutely nothing he could do about it.
While Gehlot won,Pilot still had to cross a few barriers to be the deputy CM.Gehlot knew the next in line for CM was Pilot undisputedly,& this thickened his doubt after his son,Vaibhav Gehlot lost the Jodhpur Lok Sabha contest in 2019.
Now,to make sure the power remains in his family, Gehlot started playing around Pilot's mind.Ignoring him in important meets, avoiding his opinion & side-lining him in general, trying to ‘vanish him off the face of politics’ completely, had a great impact on Pilot,as expected
But,how did Gehlot take such a huge risk of letting his own party fall?Well,he was pretty sure (he still is) that he will have enough support of the MLAs during the election & he will win, which will only lead to jeopardising the career of Pilot and making him look like an amateur
Gehlot painted Pilot's in such a way that it seemed like Pilot himself was the artist. This is how people play mind games.Pilot is at the risk of being completely thrown out of politics,& you don’t expect this from a politician who's graduated from the Wharton School of Business
But, as we all know, there is no extinguishing the gaslighting. And there are enough examples in the history of Indian politics which have shown how wonderfully skilled politicians have been destroyed in the cruel game of corruption.
Now the real question is, will Pilot complete the masterpiece and be a Picasso, or will he sacrifice his mind and be a Hussain?
