Refusing to cover protests is a way for the corporate Media to side with the police without saying that they do. It’s a deliberate perpetuation of the myth that the issues are settled. Some will recognize that for the lie it is for a lot of folks, that lie is working. https://twitter.com/manjibutt/status/1282731138704973826
For people who support the tenets of BLM but have other things as their priority, whether that’s health issues or getting food on the table, Not seeing protests reported is a signal to put their energy elsewhere. Stop donating, stop calling politicians, you’re done.
This isn’t the product of a lack of intelligence but simply that it is impossible to pay attention to every issue. Most people rely on the most accessible form of media to know what’s happening in the world. That’s CNN, the New York Times, the local nightly news, msnbc.
When those organizations start saying nothing about BLM, a lot of people think it’s because there’s nothing to say. They don’t call their politicians. And the politicians aren’t going to push back against police Or their unions who are Heavily Donating to campaigns If they can
Ignore the atrocities continuing to happen. Many of them will try to ignore it even as their constituents are demanding change. But without even that demand from a broad swath of folks, they will tell themselves and everyone else that they only prioritized what they were told to
Prioritize and BLM And defunding the police just wasn’t what their constituents wanted. For this reason if no other we need to demand answers from the major Media organizations as to why protest coverage has not continued.
We need to force it to be part of every media interaction until and unless they do their jobs and report what is happening in the world.
