As a Christian I will tell you that my faith has been used for colonizing, it’s been used to control, it’s been used to strip others cultural identities away, and it has been used in so many ways God never intended.

IMO, you can’t appropriate Christianity/Catholicism, not when

Christianity/Catholicism has literally been used for colonization and control and thrust it’s symbols and imagery upon people.

I say this with deep pain in my heart because I know what others who claimed belief in God have done in His name.

So to claim Christianity/Catholicism which has been largely misused as a tool for war, colonization and control can be appropriated, it doesn’t sit right with me because it actually detracts from the issue of minorities who have had their culture and religions appropriated.

I am proud to have faith in God. I am a proud follower of Christ. I am a Christian before anything else. A part of my faiths history is messed up, and as Oomfies said, a part of wanting to get everyone in is that every culture now has Christian symbols and images in it.

I hope that makes sense. Christianity/Catholicism is for one, spread too far and wide for any one to be able to claim it can be appropriated. Also, images and statues aren’t worshipped in Christianity, that’s idolatry, ALSO, Christianity is meant for everyone from EVERY culture.

I also hope you know that the actions of some Christians do not represent Christ who truly loves you.

He sees you, fully knows you, and fully loves you.
