see. I always got asked as a theatre kid why I stopped fucking with Glee after like S3 (a thread)
it was def not the characters.
it was the fact that EVERYONE IN THAT MF GLEE CLUB WAS MORE TALENTED THAN RACHEL. EVERYONE. but nobody else got the credit that she did for literally just being a white girl who could “belt” and sometimes sound good doing it.
like. it BURNS every ounce of soul I have left in me to know that Amber Riley, Naya Rivera, AND KEVIN MF MCHALE (specifically) were literally out here capable OF SO FUCKING MUCH (musically & otherwise)
just for L*a M*ch*le to get all the hype and clout from the show. no thnx. y’all can keep that shit away from me.
and it’s not even JUST that. this shit was happening in theatre classrooms and productions all over too. and yet nobody ever wonders why there’s such a severe lack of representation in theatre.
it’s not because POC actors/actresses/performers don’t show up and show out. it’s because directors and fucking casting will legit give a role to someone just because they’re white.
BUT LIKE GET MAD WHEN ALL POC PRODUCTIONS EXIST? OR WHEN A POC GETS A PRINCIPAL ROLE AND TURNS THAT SHIT OUT?!
so ya. I stopped watching Glee with good conscience after season 3. why you ask? because I was lowkey that black girl in a performance environment who knew good & damn well wtf that was/how that felt AND I FUCKING REFUSED.
*places mic in the tech’s hand because they expensive & exit’s stage left after my cue*
