I guess I should say my opinion about whether RFK site should become the site of the area NFL team:

Nope, even if $0 tax dollars went to the stadium. Just way better uses of that land (housing, retail, more green space), in particular if terms/ownership of land changes. https://twitter.com/barredindc/status/1282647521257500672
Now, I'm not one of those people who decry the spending on sports stadiums/arenas. Hell, I love to read about new/renovated stadiums/arenas (one of my college thesis/major projects was about Cookie Cutter Stadiums of 70s/80s-I even went to newspaper archives at LoC)
I don't dispute the many studies that they are not the economic engine that their supporters claim (i.e., they just move dollars from one part of regional economy to another). But I agree that sports franchises have intangible benefits to a metro area's citizens
Pride and other emotional benefits. A feeling that a city is major league is meaningful. It's like having a vibrant arts scene or nightlife
But DC metro already has a NFL team for that feeling of pride, and it's not going anywhere-someone will pony up in a location where land use makes sense. It's not like a fully or even partially paid stadium (like baseball) is needed to keep or attract the team here
And I agree, 60,000+ seat football stadiums, although they do usually attract more events than the 10 football games/each year, usually are empty 85% of the time or even more, and don't attract year-round crowds like arenas or a significant chunk of dates-like baseball
There's a reason that that there have not been built any new football stadiums in the city limits of NY/SF/LA (teams play in the suburbs).
That being said, I've been annoyed by many opponents of the stadium. I lived less than a mile from stadium in Hill East and still live within walking distance. Neighbors frequently light up the message boards. But instead of arguing for more housing (affordable hopefully), retail
Many complaints are NIMBY complaints about parking, traffic, noise, etc. There are so many complaints about running races that come through the neighborhood that I realize people forget that we live in the city and an extremely desirable neighborhood people want to see
What members of @councilofdc have done in last couple years to undermine their own sovereignty and statehood claims has been shameful by preventing DC from buying RFK land. No I don't want a stadium, but that should be DC's land, not the fed gov't.
That's the thing about statehood. You get to own up for your mistakes fully as well as cheer your victories. It reminds me of that shameful @ChmnMendelson 2013 moment where he opposed Height Act autonomy.
But in the end, although understandable, it's dumb to not support something you think's the right call just because you find the reasons why other people support it dumb or the tactics not great.
