If I was a teacher in the US, I would absolutely be pushing for a strike in September, legal or not. I realize it's much, much easier to say that when I'm not the one who has to do it.
I just know how difficult, how stressful it was to go back to school in June, how many other teachers couldn't because it would be a health risk for them, and how all of this was only possible because we had a union that supported our well-being, a govt that took...
health officials recommendations into account in making safety plans, AND severely reduced community transmission of the virus in BC. Going back without those things is madness. This is exactly the situation that teacher unions are for.
If your union is okay with 20% of employees being put out of work or else risking death on the job, in order to keep the other 80% working, they are doing unions wrong.
