Cool Jewish journalism story: The last few months, I've been thinking to get my little girl a tiny real siddur (prayerbook), for her tiny hands, because every time I pray she runs over and wants to join, demanding her own siddur, one that looks like mine.
Some weeks ago, I was interviewing a woman for a story. We obviously played Jewish geography for a minute. Turns out, my husband's great-grandparents, Belle (Sara) & Jacob Rosenbaum, helped her Holocaust survivor grandparents find work & housing when they came here after the war.
Today, I received a package. This woman had found two tiny prayerbooks in her house, gifts from the Rosenbaums, from 60 years ago. Now, my little Yaakov and Amalia Sara have their own little siddurim - gifts from their great-great-grandparents and namesakes.
