my facebook memories today were of the time I wrote out lists about why I loved each Harry Potter character (I think this must've been the day the last movie came out?) and looking at them and all the great convos I had with people in the comments just bummed me the fuck out.

I will always be so grateful to the joyous ways HARRY POTTER shaped my time as a youth services librarian, because it truly did. One of THE SINGLE BEST events I ever had was 2 years ago we did a 20th anniversary trivia night and almost 200 people came and it was truly magical.

the picture round was NEWT SCAMANDER IS AN ANIMAL HOARDER and they had to name each creature and one round was just matching quotes with who said them and there were questions about the play (which I love, not sorry) and it was ... it was just so. great.

and now she's just.

she's just spit all over it.

she's just .... torn it all to bits.

I will always love Harry Potter and read fanfic and re-read the books and I HAVE ALWAYS AND WILL ALWAYS believe in the death of the author theory - she doesn't get to have them, they are mine.

But god-damn it, she ruined so, so much. And I am so angry and sad about it.

just generations of loving that book with kids, how many hours I whiled away discussing every moment with them, how many wands and theories and spells and twists we marveled at ... and she has shit. all. over. it. because her brain got rotted on the Internet by bigots.
