The entire face mask saga is solely to boost the confidence of scaredy cats who are too afraid to leave their houses.

I'm not tolerating further loss of freedoms just so shops can sell more tat to the gullible.
After being scared witless by the Tories over this virus, the drones are refusing to return to shops and offices so BoZo is now trying anything to get them to return.
I saw it myself in central London on Friday. Shops deserted, restaurants empty.

But people aren't staying away because of the lack of masks. The lockdown has brought about a decade of social change in 3 months.
The damage has already been done. People will not return to retail for things they have realised they can do without.

Workers will not return to offices and resume hour long commutes with expensive season tickets just so they can buy sandwiches in Pret.
People have discovered other ways to work. They've discovered other ways to shop, they've discovered they don't need all the tat that they would once have bought.
Masks will change none of that.

The quicker that Government, businesses, retailers and the like get used to the seismic changes in behaviour, the better.
The likely result will be urban centres will rapidly become wastelands.

Unskilled workers in retail will be dumped on the scrapheap, replaced by robots working in Amazon warehouses.
Without the need to work in city centres, knowlege workers will rapidly move away, leaving slums in their wake, in a significant reversal of gentrification.
Many of those people who have asserted that urban life offers so many advantages will be realising that high crime and a melting pot of peoples from all over the world - without a sense of any community - won't be what they want after all.
This will be like a repeat of the 20s and 30s - with workers with means abandoning inner cities in favour of suburbs or towns outside of urban cores.
Adapting to all of these changes will need a radical reset of economic policy, planning and much more.

I've seen little evidence that the political or public sector establishment are ready to face the challenges that they've unleashed.
That they think they can halt or reverse it all by forcing masks on the public is sadly very telling.
