Baltimore BEEN wild.
A racist and tyrannical police commissioner is responsible for the memorial debated by @ElectRyanDorsey @fop3 @GovLarryHogan THREAD
History has not been kind to long-reigning Baltimore Commissioner #DonaldPomerleau ie the brain trust for #LittleItaly's fallen officer's memorial. Even during his time (1966-1981) the city's brash top cop was an overtly racist prick. He let it it known on his first day. 1/
An BPD whistleblower testified to an Annapolis oversight committee (yes that once existed) that Pomerleau had a secret division (ISD) that spied on the first Black US Congressman from Baltimore during the #Watergate hearings 2/
The hearings were salacious but unfruitful, so upon retirement and emboldened #Pomerleau admitted the political spying that only the likes of #CathyPugh can appreciate in an interview but only against
"Just the blacks. Just the blacks. Just the blacks." 3/
Baltimore police have acted with peak whiteness and immunity. The headline to *Olesker's article:
"Pomerleau took ill-gotten secrets to the grave"

*Michael Olesker resigned from @baltimoresun in 2006 amid plagiarism charges.

The fire setting charge tho.. 4/
A state senator coming out of a strip club on The Block threatened to throw a grenade leading BPD officers to intervene (no worries the judge threw out the charge) but he managed to bite someone and throw in a few racist slurs before his arrest. 5/
Just weeks before trial, the arresting officer George Guest got a late night home phone call abt a #HarlemPark drug deal in #WestBaltimore (shades of #SeanSuiter). Guest was ambushed, doused with liquid and set ablaze. He survived, testified then quit BPD. But there's more 6/
If it wasn't for bad luck, the ex cop wouldn't have much at all. After he was set on fire, still testified and left #BaltimorePolice George Guest started his own private security firm. He saw his employee murdered in a random act on the job. Then things got bad - 7/
Pomerleau snatched a page out of J. Edgar Hoover's playbook with is secret ISD unit. Illegal wiretaps against #WestBaltimore's 1st US Congressman Parren Mitchell and George Guest had known all about it. Those two brushes with death may not be a coincidence after all 8 /
All's well that ends well - for Sen Frank McCourt who escaped all accountability for his grenade antics. And the forgiving judge (and former state legislator) who lived to be the ripe old age of 103. But not so much for the "good cop" @BaltimorePolice George Guest 9/
George Guest died at age 54 surving multiple attempts on his life. He was the bane of Donald Pomerleau's existence. For him, there should be a "good cop" memorial #Baltimore is wiiild. 10/
