The students who will lose out the most in online learning are those living in poverty, but teachers also shouldn't be forced to risk their lives going back into school buildings. What a terrible situation. It didn't have to be this way. Never forget it didn't have to be this way
I started my career off as a high school teacher. If my district was demanding I go back into the classroom during a pandemic and put my family at risk I'd be furious. And it's not as simple as teachers just quitting in isolation. People need income. People need health insurance.
Teachers not feeling like they are able to quit their jobs during a pandemic as their districts threaten to send them back into small, unventilated classrooms is reason 6,473 why we need Medicare for all.
And it's not just the teachers who are at risk, it's the janitors, it's the cafeteria workers, it's the teaching assistants, it's the students. It's their families. It's their communities. Everyone is impacted by this.
