Officer Eric DeJesus was one of the two Sparks PD police officers who shot and killed Miciah Lee, a suicidal Black teenager, in January. But this wasn’t even DeJesus’ first time killing a suicidal community member on behalf of Sparks Police. In 2016...
...DeJesus appears to have started with SPD as an officer, recieving $60K that year in pay and benefits. In July of that year, DeJesus, alongside SPD Officer Shane Minick, shot and killed suicidal community member Jorge Moreno-Aguirre. As in Miciah’s case, Jorge’s killing was...
...ruled justified. Eric DeJesus is a two-time killer of community members in crisis.
But it doesn’t end there. During the Sparks PD awards ceremony later in 2016, Minick and DeJesus were the only officers to be given medals of valor, presumably in response to their “valor”...
...in killing Jorge. And since then, DeJesus’ pay+benefits from Sparks PD has almost tripled. In 2019, Dejesus made $174K. In January 2020, DeJesus shot and killed Miciah Lee.
To return to Shane Minick, the other officer who shot Jorge and got a medal for it: Minick’s earliest...
...available record suggests he started working as an SPD officer in 2009, recieving $135K in pay+benefits. In 2012, he was investigated for domestic violence and had to take some days off for excessive force. He is known to have been an abusive spouse. He was still working as...
...an officer in 2013. And in July 2013, Minick was one of 5 officers from Sparks and Reno PD who opened fire on Kenny Stafford, a Black man and active duty military member on leave for a friend’s funeral, experiencing a PTSD-induced mental health crisis. Kenny’s killing was...
...ruled justified. Minick faced no consequences for killing Kenny, and remained on the force long enough to kill Jorge and be rewarded for it. Minick retired in 2017 and appears to be a pension of $27K/year.

At least two SPD officers have killed multiple suicidal community...
...members.

If DeJesus had been fired after killing Jorge, rather than getting a medal and tripled pay, he wouldn’t have been there the night Miciah died. He wouldn’t have shot Miciah Lee.
Sparks PD REWARDS and FOSTERS killer cops who prey on those in crisis.
NONE of the Sparks PD officers involved in shooting & killing community members in crisis in recent years have faced consequences for it.
Justice for Miciah Lee.
Justice for Kenny Stafford.
Justice for Jorge Moreno-Aguierre.
These are only a few of the people killed by SPD.
The other Sparks PD officer who shot Miciah Lee is Ryan Patterson, whose benefits+pay in 2019 were a staggering $222K. Again, the killing of Miciah was ruled justified, so Patterson & DeJesus won’t see consequences for killing a suicidal teenager. How long until they kill again?
