a master thread of (mostly free and online) resources/references for artists of all skill levels wanting to improve their anatomy/gesture drawing/color theory:
a preface: we (more experienced artists) should be trying to make art more and more accessible to everyone. let's share our resources with each other so that younger/less experienced artists can get better at their craft more quickly than it took us!
for those wanting to get started with drawing humans:
i recommend andrew loomis's books, you can find free pdf's here http://www.alexhays.com/loomis/
for those wanting to practice their life drawing skills:
the website line of action is a fantastic resource and it also has a wide variety of images. if youre not comfortable with having timed sessions, simply pause the session! https://line-of-action.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing
this website is a masterlist of many reference photos. i don't believe it's been updated in a while, but it has many faces, bodies in motion, etc. pics so i still think it's useful
https://quickposes.com/en/library
for those wanting a 3d human anatomy model: the website http://posemaniacs.com  is a great source, but do keep in mind it requires flash and will not work on mobile.
for those wanting an app on ios that allows you to find reference models that are poseable: try the app magicposer! you do need to make an account to save your poses, and there are options to buy additional models, but overall it's still a pretty good free app.
for those wanting a program with a pose-able model on their windows computer: check out DesignDoll https://terawell.net/terawell/?lang=en
for those who want very simple, anime style poses that are images: check out this website! http://modelfactory.co.kr/1636_poses.htm
for those more inexperienced with drawing darker skin tones: a lovely person made a tutorial! but the best resource is to continue using diverse reference pics~ https://twitter.com/kittycosmic/status/1274491292697849856
for those wanting to practice clothes/different body shapes: https://twitter.com/saraalfageeh/status/1278737280375631872
for those wanting to find fashion references/practice drawing clothing: try this website, you can narrow down your search by typing in the genre (i.e: athletic) https://lookbook.nu  (if someone knows a better website please lmk this isn't the best website for this)
for those wanting fantasy/elegant character design inspiration: hass idriss's work is absolutely phenomenal https://www.hassidriss.com/collections
for those looking for hairstyle references (again, if someone has a better website than this please let me know!): https://www.hairfinder.com
for those wanting to draw animals:
this website is a HUGE database of a wide variety of animals, both domestic and wild. it's a great way to build up your anatomy skills and add to your visual library! https://www.warrenphotographic.co.uk/index.php
for those wanting to practice drawing animal/human skulls: this website has 3d models of a lot of different ones! https://x6ud.github.io/#/
for those wanting to learn how to use color in their artwork: https://twitter.com/devinkorwin/status/1278049901709012995
for those who want to add to their artbook collection: this store is great! https://stuartngbooks.com
i've reached the maximum number of tweets that i can put in a thread so i'm unfortunately forced to end this prematurely; i hope this helps someone!
oh wow... i didn't expect so many people to find this useful.... i'm working on a second thread with additional resources (that i'll add to this thread so no pressure to follow me), so if you have anything art related that you would like to share, please add it below!
